The website AirMundo.com started in 2014, under its former name AirportsinEurope.com. It is part of AirMundo BV from the Netherlands.
Where does the idea come from?
1. Due to the rise of low-cost carriers like Southwest Airlines in North America, Ryanair in Europe and AirAsia in Asia, airline ticket prices have dropped considerably. Compared to the 80s and 90s, there is now a much larger group of people for whom it is financially possible to travel by plane. Because of the significant growth in passenger numbers, existing airports needed to expand and old (military) airports started a second life. The crisis in 2008 and 2009 caused a sharp drop in the number of air passengers worldwide. These times are over, many airports are growing in capacity and passenger numbers. In addition, new mega-airports opened their doors such as Al Maktoum International Airport in the United Arab Emirates and Istanbul Airport in Turkey.
2. The rise of the internet has made it much easier to find information about destinations, travel options, airlines and cheap flights. Travel guides are more popular online than on paper and airline tickets are compared and booked online. More than 95% of all flight tickets are now booked online. The internet offers so many possibilities, as a result of which the added value of traditional travel agencies is slowly disappearing. The use of travel websites and apps is extremely popular for preparing a vacation, city trip or business trip. Besides, people are connected 24 hours a day, while travelling.
AirMundo.com is a logical consequence of the growing number of air travellers and growing (mobile) internet use. On our responsive website (ideal for PC, laptop, tablet and smartphone) we offer useful information about more than 300 airports worldwide. The information is available for free to everyone around the world. It is focused on the journey to and from the airport, in other words: parking prices, (public) transport, taxi and car rental.
We work with a small team with great enthusiasm on the English (AirMundo.com/en), French (AirMundo.com/fr), Spanish (Aeropuertoinfo.com), German (Flughafendetails.de) and Dutch (Vliegveldinfo.nl) websites. We do not have a big office, but we do have know-how and online tools to come up with the best information about airports all around the world.
