The airport is home to national flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines, known as the most successful airline in the continent. The modern Terminal 2 is used for international flights, Terminal 1 handles domestic flights operated by Ethiopian Airlines and National Airways Ethiopia. Addis Ababa Bole Airport is the third busiest airport in Africa, after Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport and Cairo Airport.

Addis Ababa Bole Airport is located in the middle of Ethiopia, southeast of the centre of the capital Addis Ababa. The airport is easily accessible by car via the Ring Road or Airport Road.

The airport has three terminals, from west to east: VIP, T1 and T2. Terminal 2 is Addis Ababa Bole Airport’s international terminal, Terminal 1 is used for domestic flights. Both terminals are connected to each other. The opening of the expanded and renovated Terminal 2 took place in August 2020.
