Air France is the flag carrier of France. The airline is one of the largest airlines in Europe and flies to many destinations worldwide across five continents. Air France is not only one of the global leaders in passenger air transportation but also in cargo transport and aircraft maintenance.

Organization

Air France is a subsidiary of the airline group Air France-KLM, which is headquartered near Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. The airline is a SkyTeam member and has a codeshare agreement with over 50 airlines worldwide. Air France has two subsidiaries: HOP! and Transavia France. The group Air France-KLM has about 85,000 employees.

History

The airline was founded in 1933, as a combination of five French airlines. Until 1952, the airline operated most of its flight from Le Bourget Airport. In that year, the airline transferred its operation to 1961. Thirteen years later, in 1974, the airline transferred to its current main base Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. In 2003 the airline merged with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, which formed the Air France-KLM group.

Baggage

Air France permits economy passengers to take one hand baggage item and one personal item on board. Premium economy, business class and La Première (first class) passengers can take up to two hand baggage items and one personal item with them on board. If you travel economy light you need to pay an additional charge to take checked baggage with you. In standard economy, you can take one piece of checked baggage of 23 kg. In premium economy, passengers can take two pieces of checked baggage of 23 kg and in business class passengers can take two pieces of 32 kg. In first class, passengers can take three bags of 32 kg.
