History
Atlantic Airways was founded in 1987 by a collaboration of the Faroese government and the Danish airline Cimber Air. In 1989, the Faroese government took full ownership of the airline. In 2007, the government decided to sell a part of its shares. From 2010, the airline was able to grow due to the runway extension at Vágar Airport, this made it possible to fly with larger aircraft to the Faroe Islands.
