Gulf Air was founded in 1950 as Gulf Aviation Company, a private shareholder company. The airline started operating under the name Gulf Air. In 2007, the Government of Bahrain decided to acquire the airline.

In addition, passengers can bring 1 piece of checked baggage with a maximum weight of 23 kg in Economy Deal & Basic class and 2 pieces of 23 kg in other Economy classes.
