Norwegian is a Scandinavian low-cost airline that mainly operates flights within Europe and to several destinations around the world. The airline has also a subsidiary in Argentina which is called Norwegian Air Argentina. Norwegian is after easyJet and Ryanair the third largest budget airline in Europe. The airline wants to be an affordable and sustainable airline and the preferred choice of air travellers.


Norwegian has multiple subsidiaries among which Norwegian Air Argentina, Norwegian Air International, Norwegian Air Norway, Norwegian Air Sweden, Norwegian Air UK and Norwegian Air Long Haul. Norwegian has about 5,500 employees and another 5,500 employees across its subsidiaries.


Norwegian was founded in 1993 as Norwegian Air Shuttle that started operating flights with Braathens SAFE, the predecessor of Braathens Regional Airlines. In 2002, this cooperation ended and the airline re-branded its name to Norwegian. Until 2007, the airline only operated flights from Norway but in that year the airline opened its first operating base abroad, at Stockholm Arlanda Airport. In 2013, the airline started operating long haul flights, mainly to destinations in North America. In 2017, the airline established its first subsidiary out of Europe, Norwegian Air Argentina. The airline subsidiary started operating domestic flights in 2018.

All passengers flying with Norwegian are allowed to bring 1 piece of cabin luggage and 1 personal item on their flight at no additional costs. The maximum combined weight of these two items is limited to 10 kg. The amount of hold baggage that is allowed on Norwegian flights depends on travel class. Passengers flying in LowFare need to pay an additional fee for checking-in a suitcase while LowFare+ passengers can bring 1 bag with a maximum weight of 20 kg.
