History

The airline was founded in 1989 under the name Air Liberté Tunisie as a subsidiary of the French airline Air Liberté. One year later, in 1990, the airline started operating with two McDonnell Douglas MD-83 aircraft. In 1995, businessman Aziz Miled took over the airline with his company Tunisian Travel Service (TTS). A year later, TTS decided to change the airlines’ name to its current name Nouvelair Tunisia. In 2003, Nouvelair Tunisia enters into an alliance with Karthago Airlines. At this time, the name Karthago Airlines is no longer used after Nouvealair acquired the airline in 2008.
