SilkAir was founded in 1989 as Tradewinds Airlines but its roots are traced back to 1975 when Tradewinds Charters was founded. In 1992, its name was changed to the current name SilkAir.
SilkAir has the same baggage rules as its parent company Singapore Airlines. Passengers flying in Economy Class can bring 1 piece of cabin luggage with a maximum weight of 7 kg on board. Business Class, First Class, and Suites passengers are permitted to bring 2 pieces of cabin luggage with a maximum weight of 7 kg on board. In addition, every passenger is allowed to bring 1 personal item on board. The amount of allowed checked baggage depends on the travel class and destination.
