History
Sri Lanka Airlines was founded in 1978 as Sr Lanka International Airlines but its roots are traced back to 1947 when Air Ceylon was established. In 1979, the airlines’ name was changed to AirLanka. Since 1999, the airline was rebranded to its current name, Sir Lankan Airlines.
Baggage
Passengers flying with Sri Lankan Airlines are permitted to bring 1 piece of cabin luggage with a maximum weight of 7 kg in Economy Class and 2 pieces of each 7 kg in Business Class. In addition, passengers can bring 1 personal item at no additional costs. The checked baggage allowance depends on the travel class and destination. Economy Class passengers are permitted to bring 2 pieces of 23 kg on routes to the Americas while on other routes passengers can bring a maximum of 30 kg of checked luggage. Business Class passengers are permitted to bring 2 pieces of 32 kg on routes to the Americas and a total maximum of 40 kg on other routes.
