History

Virgin Atlantic was founded in 1984 as British Atlantic Airways. The Group sold 49% of its shares to Singapore Airlines in 1999. In 2012, these shares were bought by Delta Air Lines. In 2019, Air France-KLM bought 31% of the shares from Virgin Group, which caused that Virgin Group is not the largest stakeholder anymore.

Economy and Premium Class passengers that fly with Virgin Atlantic are permitted to bring 1 piece of cabin luggage with a maximum weight of 10 kg. Upper-Class passengers can bring 2 pieces of hand luggage with a combined maximum weight of 16 kg. Please be aware that 1 piece can not weight more than 12 kg. In addition, every passenger can bring 1 personal item on board. The amount of allowed hold luggage depends on the travel class. Economy Light passengers need to pay an additional fee to bring checked luggage while Economy Classic travellers can bring 1 piece of 23 kg. Economy Premium passengers are allowed to bring 2 pieces of checked luggage with each a weight limited to 23 kg while Upper-Class passengers can bring 2 pieces limited to 32 kg each.
