Widerøe is a Norwegian regional airline that operates flights within Norway and some surrounding countries. The airline has a mission to become the first zero-emission airline in the world.
The airline division of Widerøe (Widerøes Flyveselskap AS) has multiple sister companies that are also subsidiaries of the parent company Wideroøe AS. Among these sister companies is also the technical division of the airline. The entire Widerøe group has approximately 3,000 employees, of which about the half works for the airline division. The airline has a codeshare agreement with four large European airlines, Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Scandinavian Airlines and Finnair.
Widerøe was founded in 1934 by Viggo Widerøe and some of his friends. The first few flights were operated with seaplanes from Ingierstrand, a beach not far from Oslo. After World War II the airline increased also started operating from Fornebu Airport and increased its activity substantially. In the 60s the airline chose to start operating from several more cities across Norway, among which Bodø and Trondheim, which was the first step in creating an entire regional route network in Norway. In 1989, the airline increased its operation even further when it bought the airline Norsk Air. Recently the airline also overtook some of SAS’s regional operation in the west of Norway and opened some international flights.

Widerøe offers each passenger 1 piece of cabin baggage with a maximum weight of 8 kg. The amount of allowed checked luggage depends on the travel class. Economy Light passengers can only bring a piece of checked luggage if they pay an additional fee.
