History

Yemenia was founded by the King of Yemen in 1940 as Yemen Airlines, the first national airline of Yemen. From 1967 to 1972 the airline was temporarily renamed as Yemen Arab Airlines, because of the partnership with United Arab Airlines. In 1972, the airline changed its name again to Yemen Airways Corporation. When in 1990, South Yemen and the Yemen Arab Republic merged together into one country, the airline merged with Alyemda and became Yemenia.
