Train to Brussels
Brussels Airport has its own train station below the terminal at level -1. Six times per hour a train departs from Brussels Airport – Zaventem railway station to the stations Brussel-Noord, Brussel-Centraal and Brussel-Zuid. The train journey from Brussels Airport to Brussel-Centraal takes approximately 17 minutes.
A ‘standaardbiljet’ – as it is called in Belgium (Flanders) – for a single trip is priced at € 8.90, it includes the Diabolo fee of € 5.40. A maximum of four children up to 11 years can travel free with each paying person aged 12 or over. Please consult website Belgian Railways for more information.
Bus to Brussels
Next to the train, you can travel by bus between Brussels Airport and the city centre. From Monday to Friday until 20:00 hours you can use bus line 12. In the evening after 20:00 hours, on weekends and holidays, you can take bus line 21. These ‘Airport Line’ buses depart from level 0 (platform C). Both services run between Brussels Airport and Brussels-Luxembourg Station, in the heart of the European quarter. If you have to be in the centre of Brussels, you can get off the bus at Brussels-Schuman Station and transfer to the metro (M1 and M5). The bus ride between the airport and Brussels-Schuman Station takes around 30 minutes by bus line 12 and line 21, the buses depart every 10 to 20 minutes.
A single ticket costs € 4.50 at the red-blue GO ticket vending machines at platform C and € 6.00 on the bus. Tickets are valid on the bus, metro and tram for 60 minutes. You can also buy a relatively cheap JUMP ticket for 24 hours (€ 7.50), 48 hours (€ 14.00) or 72 hours (€ 18.00). To get this ticket you have to be in possession of a MOBIB card worth € 5.00. Train to Ghent, Bruges, Leuven, Liège, Mechelen and Antwerp
Because the airport has its own railway station, you can reach many Belgian cities. The beautiful and popular cities Ghent and Bruges are easily accessible by train. There are two direct trains per hour to Ghent (Station Gent-Sint-Pieters), every second train is heading to Bruges at .03 past the hour.
Unfortunately, there is no direct train from Brussels Airport – Zaventem to Liège-Guillemins, the main railway station of Liège. You need to change trains in Leuven, every half an hour a train departs from the airport to Leuven (Louvain). The journey to the university city of Leuven takes only 13 minutes, the train ride to Liège takes another 33 minutes. Two times per hour you can take a train from Brussels Airport – Zaventem to Antwerpen Centraal railway station, travel time is just 32 minutes. On its way, the train also stops in Mechelen (11 minutes) and Antwerpen Berchem (26 minutes).
The price of a ticket depends on the destination, tickets to Bruges and Liège are more expensive (approximately € 20.00) than tickets to nearby cities like Leuven and Mechelen (approximately € 9.00). Please consult website Belgian Railways for more information.
Is there direct public transport available from Brussels Airport to Charleroi Airport?
Unfortunately not. You have two travel options, both a combination of train and bus. Firstly, you can take a direct train from Brussels Airport – Zaventem to Charleroi-Sud and then bus A to Charleroi Airport. Travel time is around 2 hours and 20 minutes, the price is € 22.90. Secondly, you can take a train from Brussels Airport – Zaventem to Brussel-Zuid and then the Brussels City Shuttle to Charleroi Airport. Travel time is approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, the price is € 23.10. Another option is getting a taxi from Brussels Airport to Charleroi Airport.
Airport Express to Antwerp
The Airport Express runs between Brussels Airport and Antwerpen Centraal, the main railway station in the port city of Antwerp. The stops in Antwerp are located at the Koningin Astridplein (central station) and in front of the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Antwerp South (Zuid). Children under 2 years travel for free, while everyone else has to pay the prices as stipulated below when boarding the bus. Bus drivers only accept cash payments.
At Brussels Airport the bus departs from level 0 (platform B). The Airport Express runs every 60 minutes in the direction of Antwerp and Brussels Airport, the journey time is 45 minutes. The bus is not faster, but slightly cheaper than a direct train to Antwerp (travel time: 32 minutes, price: € 11.60). The first bus from Antwerp leaves already at 03:00 hours, the last bus from Brussels Airport departs at 00:00 hours. Please consult website and timetable Airport Express for more information.
