Metro to Doha
Since December 2019, you can travel by metro between Doha Hamad International Airport and the city, before the bus and taxi were your only options. Due to the new metro connection Doha Hamad International Airport is now easily accessible by public transport, the journey time to the centre of Doha is only 15 minutes. The airport’s metro station is a 5-minute walk from the terminal, it’s located next to West Short Term Car Park. If you need to be in the city centre, you can take the Red Line in the direction of Lusail to Msheireb, along the way it stops at Oqba Ibn Nafie, Al Matar Al Qadeem, Umm Ghuwailina and Al Doha Al Jadeda. From Msheireb metro station, you can reach the centre of Doha on foot or by metro by changing to the Gold Line. The centre of the city is one stop away, namely Souq Waqif metro station.
Metro tickets
In total, Doha has three metro lines: Red Line, Gold Line and Green Line. Popular places such as West Bay, DECC, Katara and The Pearl-Qatar (Legtaifiya metro station) are directly accessible by the red metro line from the airport. You can buy tickets for the metro from ticket machines at the stations. First, you will need to buy a Travel Card, you can choose between Limited Use (free, one time use), Standard (10 QAR, rechargeable) and Gold (100 QAR, rechargeable). Second, you must top up your card to access the platforms. The price for a single ticket is 3.00 QAR with a Limited Use Travel Card and 9.00 QAR for a day ticket. If your are in possession of a Standard Travel Card you pay 2.00 QAR in Standard & Family Class, the price for a day ticket is 6.00 QAR. Gold Class is much more expensive, but a very nice experience as well. Children up to 4 years are allowed to travel for free on public transport in Qatar. Bus to Doha
You can still travel by bus to and from Doha Hamad International Airport, several buses run from and to the airport. Bus Route 747 (04:50 hours – 23:50 hours / 3.00 QAR) and Bus Route 777 (05:00 hours – 23:00 hours / 5.00 QAR) connect the airport to the city centre, every 20 minutes you have a travel option. Bus 747 stops at many places in central Doha, including at Al Ghanim Bus Station near Souq Waqif metro station. Bus 777 runs to Katara Cultural Village and The Pearl-Qatar via a few stops in the city centre. Doha Hamad International Airport’s bus station is located on the right-hand side outside the Arrivals hall. Buses in Doha are operated by Mowasalat.
