What is the distance from Frankfurt Airport to the centre of Frankfurt?
The airport is easily accessible by car, taxi and public transport. By car it takes 20 minutes to cover the distance (12 kilometres / 7.5 miles) between Frankfurt Airport and the centre of Frankfurt (Römerberg).

Public transport
BE AWARE: Frankfurt Airport has two railway stations, namely Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof (platforms 1 – 3) for long-distance trains at Level 1 of T1 and Frankfurt Flughafen Regionalbahnhof (platforms 4 – 7) for regional trains and the S-Bahn beneath Airport City Mall of T1. From train station Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof the cities of Koblenz (IC, 1 hour 13 minutes), Mannheim (ICE, 31 minutes) and Würzburg (ICE, 1 hour 25 minutes) are directly accessible. You have to change trains if you want to go to Kassel or Heidelberg by public transport. The bus stops at Frankfurt Airport are located in front of the Arrivals halls of the airport, i.e. outside Level 1 of Terminal 1 and Level 2 of Terminal 2. S-Bahn to Frankfurt
The easiest way to travel between the airport and Frankfurt is the S-Bahn. The commuter railway lines S8 and S9 leave from Regionalbahnhof under Terminal 1 in the direction of Offenbach Ost and Hanau. The first two stations from Frankfurt Airport are Stadion (Commerzbank-Arena, Eintracht Frankfurt) and Niederrad. The third stop after 14 minutes is Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof, where you can change to S-Bahn, U-Bahn, train, tram and bus. If you need to be in Frankfurt’s city centre it is better to get off at station Frankfurt Hauptwache after approximately 17 minutes.
Tickets
A ticket costs € 5.80 for adults and € 3.40 for children (Preisstufe 4), tickets can be purchased from ticket machines on the stations. A day ticket costs € 11.30 (Tageskarte for one person) or € 19.10 (Gruppentageskarte for up to five people). Every 10 to 15 minutes a S-Bahn departs in both directions. In the other direction, you can travel every half hour with S-Bahn S8 to Mainz and Wiesbaden, and with S-Bahn S9 to Wiesbaden. At night, S-Bahn S8 runs every half hour between Frankfurt Airport and Frankfurt. Please consult website and timetable S-Bahn S8 and S9 for more information.
TIP: If you want to use public transport more often and benefit from discounts on museums, city tours, restaurants, shops and more, then the Frankfurt Card for 1 day (€ 11.50) or 2 days (€ 17.00) is recommended. You can also use the card for the journey to and from Frankfurt Airport.

AirLiner to Darmstadt
The AirLiner bus runs almost 40 times a day between Frankfurt Airport and the main railway station in Darmstadt. The bus leaves every 30 minutes, the journey time is 30 minutes. On the route there are six stops, at Flughafen Terminal 1, Flughafen Tor 3, Flughafen Terminal 2, Darmstadt Mina-Rees-Strasse, Darmstadt Heinrich-Hertz-Strasse and Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof. Nowadays, the AirLiner bus makes two additional stops after Darmstadt Hbf railway station, namely at Darmstadt Luisenplatz (centre of the city) and Darmstadt Kongresszentrum (Darmstadtium science and congress centre). The prices for the AirLiner bus are listed below, on board the bus you can use free WiFi. Children up to 5 years travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult.
