Latest airport review
The airport would be fine if not for corrupt screening practices. We bought two things at the local markets and had them in our carry on bags. Both were small copper decorative pieces. After a 2 hour wait just to get to the security check point, it was obvious that my blonde hair and lack of Spanish was targeted.
My bag was aggressively ripped open and gone through until the security agent found what she was looking for. I didn’t have time to wait through the line again and didn’t even check a bag. She told me a small copper tea pot was a dangerous item and I couldn’t take it. I had no choice, but to surrender it.
As I walked away I saw her tuck the item away for safe keeping, with a smile. It did not go into the trash or where other items had been surrendered. She fully intended to keep it.
Don’t buy anything thinking you are helping the local economy. Look, but don’t buy, because a greedy, corrupt security screener will make sure they line their own pockets from your purchase.
