Latest airport review
This is a strange and badly functioning airport. A few examples from our recent visit:
- Luggage check in is meant to be carried out in a machine, automatically reading baggage tags printed in another (!) machine. It does not work well. We got help from an attendant, seemingly working full time with those machines. She had to try 3-8 times on each bag to make it work. And it is meant to be used by passengers (!).
- After getting help from the attendant to check in 4 backpacks in the machine, another attendant came and told her backbacks are not allowed in the machine, and need to he handled at a check in counter. I asked if I couldn't just go to oversized baggage and hand it in there, but no, I should go to a check-in counter. I queued 20 minute at the check-in counter, just to be told that I didn't need to go there (!), I could go directly to oversized baggage with the remaining backpacks.
- When queuing to the check-in counter there was just one counter open. One passenger issue took 15 minutes to handle. During those minutes the attendant went away for several minutes (!) leaving the counter empty and the long queue of waiting passengers very frustrated.
- I handed in 6 bags in total. Because of the process above, I got receipts on just 4 bags. I asked the attendant, but there was no possibility to get receipts for all the bags. I just had to pray that the other two arrived correctly (which they did, luckily).
- When the check-in machine printed our boarding passes, the printed boarding time was 15 minutes after scheduled takeoff. Apparently a delay was expected. But on the screens in the hall and in the gate, no delay was mentioned. Even though the airport apparently had the information about the expected delay.
- When waiting for the plane I visited the toilets several times. Each time I had difficulty operating the water faucet at the hand washing basin. The sensor did not work properly. This was at all three faucets. I saw one passenger trying to fill a water bottle using the poorly functioning faucet. It took a very long time. I also saw several passengers trying to wash their hands, but giving up as the sensors did not work. So they left with dirty hands (!).
In summary, I have never experienced such a badly functioning airport.
