General information

Hong Kong Airport is one of the busiest and best airports in the world, located in the Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China. Hong Kong Airport is the biggest cargo airport in the world and the main base of Cathay Pacific, HK Express and Hong Kong Airlines. The airport was built on an artificial island (Chek Lap Kok) and opened in 1998 for passenger flights.

Hong Kong Airport is situated west of the city on the island of Chek Lap Kok. Route 8 connects the airport with Lantau Island, Tsing Yi Island, Stonecutters Island and West Kowloon.

How many terminals does Hong Kong Airport have?

The airport has two terminals, namely Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 is the largest and consists of the main building with gates and a large pier (Y shape) with many more gates. Terminal 2 is only used for departing passengers, here you will find check-in desks and SkyPlaza.

Does Hong Kong Airport have an Automated People Mover (APM)?

Yes, an underground Automated People Mover takes travellers every 5 minutes between 06:30 hours and 01:00 hours from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1.
