Train to Johannesburg

Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport has its own railway station and is therefore easily accessible by public transport. Every 10 minutes (Peak) to 20 minutes (Off-Peak) a train runs between the airport and Sandton Station in the north of Johannesburg. The train service is called Airport Service and is operated by Gautrain. Sandton is known as an affluent neighbourhood and business district in Johannesburg. If you want to go to the centre of Johannesburg, you can change at Sandton or Marlboro station for North/South Service to Park Station in the middle of the city. Travel time including a transfer is 30 minutes. If you want to travel by public transport from Johannesburg OR Tambo Airport to Pretoria, it takes 60 minutes including a transfer at Marlboro Station.

To travel with the Gautrain, you must be in possession of a Gautrain Card or credit card (Europay, Mastercard, Visa). Contactless payment or Pay-As-You-Go is the easiest way to pay. A one-way ticket to the centre of Johannesburg costs 202 ZAR, the price to Pretoria is 217 ZAR. Gautrain trains run every day of the week between approximately 04:30 hours and 22:30 hours. The airport’s railway station is located in front of International Terminal A a short distance from International Arrivals and Domestic Arrivals.
