Latest airport review
Let me tell you about my experience in the Kuwait International Airport so that you could draw your conclusions.
My flight arrived around 4 AM, and next flight was to depart at 7:40 PM. So, I had some time to check-in for my next flight. As my next flight was carried out by Jazeera Airways, I thought I could check-in online. Unfortunately, their website didn't provide the check-in service, and the app missed my country from the list. So, I found the information center and asked their help on how to check-in. They kindly pointed me towards the Transfer Desk. I asked the same from them, and they said they will help me to check-in. But then they noticed that I have more than 6 hours to my next flight. They told me that I cannot stay in the airport terminal for that long, and I have to book hotel right away. I argued that I cannot go outside of the airport because I don't have a visa. They replied I can book a room in the airport hotel. I managed to find the hotel's website, but the booking was impossible because the feature wasn't implemented yet. So, I went back to the information center to ask about it. Of course then we went back to the Transfer Desk where they told me they will organise the transportation to the hotel within half an hour. That half an hour wait turned into 2 hours wait before they had time to deal with it. Also, I had no more information about my check-in.
So, now they deported me to the hotel. I found an article https://www.kuwaitairport.gov.kw/en/shopping-and-relax/relax/airport-hotels/ which stated that between flights the booking of the room will be free of charge but the receptionist said it doesn't apply to my flight as my arrival flight and departure flight were operated by different companies, and therefore I have to pay for my stay myself. So, they asked 34 Kuwait Dinars from me, it's over €100, and it did upset my budget.
So, it was 8 AM by the time I walked into the room, having been no smarter about my check-in, nor what and how long was I supposed to wait in there. I thought that 6 hours before the departure of the flight would be a good time to leave. Around 2 PM I went back to the lobby to ask about how much longer should I wait for. The reply I received was: "Someone comes to pick you up around 5:30 PM". So, I went back to enjoy my lovely room. Luckily, there was enough water laying around so I could quench my thirst. So, by 5:30 PM I came back down to the lobby, the receptionist's first reaction was: "Somebody will come to call you!" Then I pointed out to him that it's about 2 hours until the departure of my flight.
So, by that time I had been in that hotel over 9 hours, no meals nor no place in the vicinity where to buy something edible. And now I was getting anxious about them making me miss my flight.
So, finally, about 75 minutes before the departure of my flight someone came to pick me up, to transport me to the doors of Jazeera's terminal area, but I still didn't had my boarding pass. Luckily, from this point on everything went smoothly.
I booked my flight via Kiwi.com who stated that they don't have any information, neither from the airlines nor from the airport that they are not allowing the passenger to stay at the airport for more than 6 hours.
In conclusion, the experience was "very exciting. The excitement of being coerced, robbed, kidnapped, deported, forgotten, and starved, is definitely worth something, " but personally I wouldn't pay over €100 for this kind of experience. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay in Kuwait International Airport for longer than 6 hours if easy transit is a priority.
