London Heathrow Airport

General information

London Heathrow Airport is the busiest airport in the United Kingdom and Europe, mainly used by British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. The airport has four terminals (T2, T3, T4, T5) and two runways. A third runway will be opened in 2025, at the expense of Harmondsworth and Sipson.


Where is London Heathrow Airport situated?

Heathrow Airport is situated in the west of London. All terminals are easily accessible by public transport and car, from the M4 and M25 motorways.

How many terminals does London Heathrow Airport have?

Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are located in the centre of the airport complex, Terminal 4 is on the southern side and Terminal 5 on the western side. London Heathrow’s newest terminal is Terminal 2 (The Queen’s Terminal), it opened in June 2014. Terminal 1 has been closed since June 2015.

Does London Heathrow Airport have an Automated People Mover (APM)?

Yes, the airport has two different types of Automated People Movers. One of them is the Terminal 5 Transit, this APM connects the main building of terminal 5, where you can find the A-gates, with the B-gates in Concourse B and the C-gates in Concourse C. In addition, the airport has a person rapid transfer system which is called the ULTra. This ULTra system has small pod-vehicles which can bring people from Terminal 5 to Parking A or Parking B.

Because the airport has seperate terminals, it doesn't feel like the airport is that large but if you need to transfer from one terminal to another, it could take a while. Airport buildings that I visited are modern and easy to navigate in.
