Train to London (St Pancras International)
The fastest way to get to the centre of London is by train. There is a train station near the airport, but not within walking distance. Luton Airport Parkway railway station can be reached with the automated people mover Luton DART (Direct Air-Rail Transit). DART station is located a short distance from the terminal. Luton DART departs every 5 to 8 minutes in the direction of Luton Airport Parkway railway station and the airport, a journey takes less than 4 minutes. At the train station, you can board a train of Thameslink or EMR East Midlands Railway (“Luton Airport Express”) to London. Trains run in both directions approximately every 10 minutes, with Thameslink departing four times an hour (24/7) and EMR East Midlands Railway twice an hour (06:00 hours – 22:00 hours).
A train ride from Luton Airport Parkway to St Pancras International in Central London takes an average of 30 minutes. If you use the Thameslink train service you can also stay a bit longer on the train and get off at Farringdon, City Thameslink and London Blackfriars, these stations are more centrally located in London. Tickets are available online, at the airport and train stations. Tickets for Luton DART are quite expensive priced at £ 4.90 for adults and £ 2.45 for children from 5 up to 15 years. It’s wise to buy a train ticket to or from Luton Airport instead of Luton Airport Parkway, in the former case the ride with Luton DART is included. An Anytime Day Single train ticket from London Luton Airport to St Pancras International costs £ 20.20 for adults and £ 10.10 for children from 5 up to 15 years. In the centre of London (= fare zone 1) you can travel from west to east and vice versa with the Piccadilly Line (stations: Hyde Park Corner, Green Park, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square, Covent Garden), Central Line and the Elizabeth Line train (stations: Paddington, Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Farringdon, Liverpool Street). Hyde Park Corner and Green Park stations are within walking distance of Buckingham Palace. The north and south of the city centre are connected by London Underground Victoria Line, Jubilee Line, Bakerloo Line and Northern Line. In public transport you can pay with your bank card and mobile phone (check in & check out). Of course, you can also buy a Visitor Oyster Card or London Travelcard. You cannot buy single tickets on the buses in London, the tube (metro) is twice as expensive if you buy single tickets.
Bus to London – Book tickets
Once an hour, sometimes twice an hour, there is a direct bus from London Luton Airport to Victoria Station in the centre of the city (Westminster). The bus service is operated by Green Line, Route 757. Buses run from London Luton Airport to Victoria Station via Bricket Wood, Brent Cross, Finchley Road Station, Baker Street Station and Marble Arch (Hyde Park). Travel time to London Victoria Station, one of the main railway stations in London, is approximately 1 hour and 25 minutes. The bus is not faster, but cheaper than the train between Luton and London. The price for a one-way ticket is £ 11.50, a return ticket costs £ 17.50. Children aged between 5 and 15 years receive a discount, children up to 4 years travel for free. Bus to Luton
The city of Luton is close and easy to reach, there are two possibilities. The first option is the automated people mover Luton DART to Luton Airport Parkway railway station (4 minutes), followed by a 25-minute walk or 5-minute train ride to the centre of town. The second option is Busway bus A, Stagecoach bus 99, Arriva Sapphire bus 100, Green Line bus 757 or National Express to Luton Station Interchange (10 minutes), this bus station is located next to the main railway station of Luton. The centre can be reached from here on foot in no more than 10 minutes. A one-way ticket for Luton DART costs £ 4.90 for adults and £ 2.45 for children from 5 up to 15 years. If you want to travel with a direct bus, you can buy a ticket for roughly £ 2.50. Students, children and seniors usually receive a discount.
