What is the distance from Los Angeles Airport to the centre of Los Angeles?
Los Angeles is a large and busy city. During peak hours, travel times can be many times longer than usual. The distance from the airport to downtown Los Angeles is 18 miles (29 kilometres). You should take a travel time of at least 25 minutes into account. To Hollywood it takes also about half an hour, the distance is 18 miles (29 kilometres). Santa Monica and Venice Beach can be reached in 15 to 20 minutes by car.
From LAX Airport to los by Car
Bus/Metro to Los Angeles
There are many ways to get around the city by public transport, however, a transfer is necessary. The first step is the bus from the airport to the LAX City Bus Transit Center bus station (Lot C Shuttle) or Aviation / LAX Station (Bus G Route) metro station. Both buses leave with great regularity, Lot C Shuttle from Upper / Departures Level and Bus G Route from Lower / Arrivals Level. The stops can be recognized by the orange with black sign ‘LAX Shuttle to Lot C’ and the blue sign indicating ‘LAX Shuttle Airline Connection’. At LAX City Bus Transit Center you can take several buses in the direction of Los Angeles, but you always have to change to another bus to actually get into the center. The total travel time for this trip is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. For the trip you will pay $ 1.75 twice, so in total you will lose $ 3.50 for the trip. Tickets can be purchased from the bus driver and paid in cash. You can also use a TAP card. At Aviation / LAX Station you can travel further with Green Line Metro to 7th Street / Metro Center Station in the center of Los Angeles, you still have to change to Blue Line Metro in Willowbrook. The Metro Rail network in Los Angeles consists of six metro lines: Blue Line, Expo Line, Gold Line, Green Line, Purple Line, Red Line. At the end of 2019, the Crenshaw / LAX Line will be opened and two new metro stations in the Los Angeles area will be taken into use, namely Aviation / 96th Street and Aviation / Century. These stations will also be connected to the new northern connection of Green Line. In 2021 Aviation / 96th Street will be connected to the terminals of the airport by the LAX people mover.
Bus to Venice and Santa Monica (Big Blue Bus / LA Metro bus)
If you want to visit Venice or Santa Monica, you can take Big Blue Bus Route 3 in the direction of Downtown Santa Monica (SM) Station. The bus leaves 2 to 3 times per hour from LAX City Bus Transit Center (Lot C Shuttle). The first bus leaves around 05:00 in the morning and the last around 00:00 at night. The journey costs you $ 1.25 and you pay with the bus driver. You can also pay with a BBB token, with a TAP card or with the Token Transit App. The journey time to Downtown SM Station is approximately 30 minutes from LAX City Bus Transit Center. The journey time to Lincoln NB & Venice NS is approximately 20 minutes. From here it is a 25-minute walk to Venice Beach. You can also choose from here LA Metro bus line 33 or LA Metro bus line 733 in the direction of Venice. With both, you can get off at Venice’s Main / Grand bus stop for Venice Beach. Bus transportation – FlyAway (Los Angeles and Hollywood)
It is faster and easier to choose FlyAway if you want to go to Downtown Los Angeles. From the airport, a direct shuttle bus goes to Union Station (Patsaouras Transit Plaza). Union Station is the largest train station in Los Angeles close to the center of the city, Little Tokyo and Chinatown. The FlyAway shuttle bus will take you here for $ 9.75 in about 45 minutes. The bus runs every 30 minutes between 05:00 and 01:00 and every 60 minutes between 01:00 and 05:00. You can pay for bus tickets with your debit or credit card on the bus. FlyAway shuttle buses depart outside each terminal (Lower / Arrivals Level) to Los Angeles, the bus stops are indicated by the green sign ‘FlyAway Buses and Long Distance Vans’. FlyAway brings travelers straight to and from Hollywood every hour, the price is $ 8.00 for a single journey. The first bus from Hollywood FlyAway Bus Stop leaves at 05.15, the last bus from Los Angeles Airport at 22.15.
