General information

Mexico City Airport is the largest airport in Mexico, it handled more than 50 million passengers in 2019. The airport is home to national flag carrier  Aeromexico (Terminal 2) and low-cost carrier Volaris (Terminal 1). From Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 of Mexico City Airport you can travel to the city centre by metro, bus and taxi, for travellers with a lot of luggage it’s the best to take a taxi. In 2022 or 2023, Mexico City Felipe Ángeles International Airport will be opened north of the city, this airport is intended for low cost airlines and cargo airlines.

Where is Mexico City Airport situated?

Mexico City Airport is located in the east of Mexico City, a short distance from the city centre. The airport is located in an urban area, a journey by car to and from the airport can take a very long time due to the congestion on the roads.

How many terminals does Mexico City Airport have?

The airport consists of two terminals, Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 2 is located a few kilometres south of Terminal 1, the airport’s largest terminal. The terminals are connected by means of an automated people mover system known as Aerotrén. The free Aerotrén runs between the terminals at least every 11 minutes from 05:00 hours to 23:00 hours, travel time is 5 minutes. The Aerotrén is only available for people who are in possession of an airline ticket.

People without an airline ticket can use the red coloured public buses ‘inter-terminal transportation’, which run from Terminal 1 / Puerta 6 to Terminal 2 / Puerta 4 and vice versa between 05:00 hours and 01:00 hours. For a bus ride between the terminals you pay 16 MXN per person, tickets can be bought from the bus driver.
