The airport is quite far from the city of Milan, the distance between the two places is 50 kilometres / 31.1 miles. A journey by car via the A8 (Autostrada dei Laghi) takes 45 minutes from Terminal 1 and 40 minutes from Terminal 2.

Train Malpensa Express to Milan – BUY TICKETS
From Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 it’s easy to travel by train to Milan, Malpensa Express (Trenord Lombardia) offers a railway connection to the stations of Milano Cadorna and Milano Centrale. The train to and from Milano Cadorna departs twice an hour, the journey time is 43 minutes from T2 and 37 minutes from T1. On its way the trains stops at the stations of Busto Arsizio, Saronno and Milano Nord Bovisa. The train to and from Milano Centrale runs two times per hour as well, a train ride to the main railway station takes 60 minutes from Terminal 2 and 54 minutes from Terminal 1.
Trains to and from Milano Centrale always stop at Milano Porta Garibaldi, this is the third busiest train station in Milan after Centrale and Cadorna. What you might not know, Milano Cadorna railway station is closer to the city centre than Milano Centrale railway station. You can buy tickets at the stations and online through the website of Malpensa Express. The prices are listed below, a return ticket should be used within 30 days. A family ticket costs € 33.00 and can be used by 2 adults and 2 children from 4 up to 17 years.
The station of Terminal 1 is located on floor -1, accessible from the Arrivals and Departures halls via escalators and elevators. From the gate you walk 5 to 10 minutes. The station of Terminal 2 is opposite the Arrivals hall, and can be accessed via a covered walkway. Here too, you will have to walk 5 to 10 minutes from the gate. The Milan metro network consists of four lines, known as M1, M2, M3 and M5. A ticket for public transport in Milan costs € 2.00 (3 fare zones, Mi1 – Mi3). Terravision to Milan – BUY TICKETS
You can also choose to travel by bus of Terravision to and from Milan, this is cheaper than taking the train Malpensa Express. Every 30 minutes from early in the morning until late at night a bus of Terravision leaves from Terminal 1 to Milan’s main railway station, via Terminal 2. The journey time from the airport to train station Milano Centrale (Via Giovanni Battista Sammartini) is 60 minutes from T1 and 50 minutes from T2. Tickets are available through the website of Terravision, children up to 4 years of age can travel for free. Do you want to visit Fiera Milano Rho or Fiera Milano City it is better to get on the Malpensa Shuttle, this bus service offers rides to and from both exhibition venues in Milan. Milan Malpensa Airport is unfortunately 50 minutes away from the city centre of Milan. If you have a layover of more than 5 hours it is definitely worth it to head into the city. If not, you can visit Sesto Calende, a beautiful village located at the Lago Maggiore. By taxi you will get there in 10 minutes. To get to the city centre of Milan, you can either take public transportation or go by taxi.
