What is the distance from Sydney Airport to the centre of Sydney?

The distance from the airport to the city centre (Sydney Town Hall in Central Business District) is only 12 kilometres / 7.3 miles. By car, it takes at least 20 minutes to cover the distance.

Public transport

Train to Sydney (Central Station / City Circle)

At Sydney Airport there are two railway stations, one at the international terminal (T1) and one close to the domestic terminals (T2 and T3). These two stations, named Sydney International Airport Station and Sydney Domestic Airport Station are connected to the T8 Airport & South Line. From Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, travel time to Central Station is 10 minutes. A train journey from Terminal 1 takes 2 minutes more, thus 12 minutes. From Central Station, the train proceeds as City Circle to Town Hall Station and stops at the following stations: Museum, St James, Circular Quay and Wynyard. The price for a single train ticket is 4.50 AUD per person. In addition, passengers travelling through one of the two airport’s train stations are obliged to pay the additional Gate Pass fee of 14.90 AUD. Children from 4 up to 15 years pay 2.20 AUD for a single journey, the Gate Pass fee is 13.20 AUD. Please consult website Airport Link for more information.

Bus to Sydney

There is no direct bus running from Sydney Airport to the city centre. However, you can take bus line 400 and bus line 420 to Eastgardens. These buses stop in front of Terminal 1 and Terminal 3. After a few stops, you will reach the bus stop Westfield Eastgardens. From here, you can take bus line 392 to Circular Quay, located in the centre of Sydney. A ticket costs 4.60 AUD for the first bus and 6.00 AUD for the second bus. The total journey time is about 90 minutes. During the night between 00:25 hours and 04:25 hours, bus N20 runs once an hour from Sydney Airport Terminal 1 to Town Hall Station in Sydney. The ride takes about 30 minutes and the price is 4.60 AUD for a single journey. In general, it’s more economical if you are in possession of an Opal Card.
