I was there to help my mother during her travel home.
She had surgery few weeks earlier and was somehow unstable in her feet, so she was holding on my arm all time, and we were walking slowly toward the security checks.
We didn't ask for any kind of assistance, but the security open up a line just for us, and one of the security even held my mother and accompanied her trough the security gate, while I was unable since getting through security myself.
The place was crazy busy, and finding these people so aware and helpful surprise me.
Also going through the check in and accessing the gate was quite easy.
This airport is the epicenter of racism and discrimination. The staff in the airport and the airline counters and security are rude, obnoxious, and profile people. AVOID this airport if possible. The only civilized staff are the workers in the food service area. This airport does NOTHING to promote tourism and is the COMPLETE opposite of the people in Venice. The Venetian people are warm, generous, inviting, hospitable, and able to communicate. I am a seasoned traveler for over 17 years. Venice AIRPORT is the worse for customer service and appreciation.
Venice Marco Polo gave me more problems than any airport I've ever seen and I travel a lot.
Covid Test. The first major issue was the "fast covid" testing. I showed up at the terminal the full 2 hours before takeoff and after a long wait at Lufthansa check in was told I needed to get a quick Covid test to travel. There was only 1 doctor working and 3 different lines to get through. End result, I wasn't back at the checkin desk for 1 1/4 hours. It was still 30 minutes before takeoff but the Lufthansa checkin crew had left already and I missed the flight -- and had to buy a new ticket. Unbelievable.
WiFi. With a missing flight I tried to get a new one using the Marco Polo free Wifi. Big problem there, Their wifi kept dropping my page loading whether on my phone or new laptop -- and this was with their "faster" wifi choice. This was at an airport that had hardly anyone flying for a couple of hours. That went on for almost 2 hours.
The Are reticketing counter. The only Lufthansa rep still around said I could use "Are" Marco Polo's in-house reticketing office, to book a new flight. Clearly she never tried that herself. There was one person working there and 6 people waiting. Finally after 1 1/2 hours, I got to speak with him. By then I had already seen him tell 5 customers that he couldn't help them. When I told him I wanted to rebook a flight, he started researching. But kept talking to customers after me in line who had questions. This went on for 15 minutes. He only had one suggestion, an Italia Air flight. I asked if there were any other choices and he got mad at me. I said, OK, please book the flight. He said he couldn't do that. There were other folks waiting in line. But he pushed me off to the Italia counter next door that could book for me. So I spoke with them and explained the Are counter guy's flight booking suggestions. They had no such flight from Marco Polo or Rome. They said the guy didn't know what he was talking about. She was helpful enough to point me to a Delta/Air France flight the next day. It was good advice. So I found a close-by hotel, one that had Wifi, and booked the flight there. ... And realized that Venice Marco Polo is like visiting a third-world country, esp if your travel plan change.
