What is the distance from Vienna Airport to the centre of Vienna?
The largest airport in Austria is easily accessible from the city. By car, it takes 20 to 25 minutes to cover the distance of 20 kilometres / 12.4 miles between the airport and city centre.

S-Bahn and train to Vienna
From Vienna Airport you can choose between S-Bahn S7 to Wien Mitte (direction Wien Floridsdorf Bahnhof) or the Railjet train to Wien Hauptbahnhof. Travel time to Wien Mitte station is 25 minutes, located just east of the city centre. Here you can change, at metro station Landstraße, to U-Bahn U3 in the direction of Stephansplatz or U-Bahn U4 towards Karlsplatz. The train takes you in 15 minutes to the main railway station Wien Hbf. S-Bahn S7 and the Railjet train both run twice an hour. Public transportation in Vienna is carried out by Wiener Linien (U-Bahn, tram and bus), the name of the Austrian railway company is ÖBB (S-Bahn and train).
S-Bahn and train tickets
As of 1 January 2018 there are new tariffs for public transport in Vienna, also for the journey between Vienna Airport and the city. The price to Wien Mitte or Wien Hbf is € 4.20 for adults and € 2.10 for children from 6 up to 15 years, children up to 5 years can travel for free in Vienna. A ticket consists of two parts (Einzelfahrt im VOR € 1.80 + Wien Kernzone € 2.40). It is also possible to bu a day ticket, day tickets for public transport in Vienna cost € 8.00 for 24 hours, € 14.10 for 48 hours and € 17.10 for 72 hours.
Please note that these day tickets are not valid on the train and S-Bahn to and from the airport. You can however buy a more expensive day ticket at Vienna Airport that includes the journey to and from the airport. The price for a day ticket including the train or S-Bahn to and from the airport is € 11.60 for 24 hours, € 19.50 for 48 hours and € 24.30 for 72 hours. Tickets must be purchased and validated prior to boarding, fines for traveling without a valid ticket are high. City Airport Train to Vienna
It is also possible to travel with the fast non-stop train service City Airport Train (CAT) between Vienna Airport and Wien Mitte station. However, for this option you pay three times as much (€ 11.00 online, € 12.00 ticket machine). The City Airport Train runs like the S-Bahn twice an hour, travel time is only 16 minutes. Moreover, the train is free for children up to 14 years. In the trains you can read newspapers, city guides and magazines, use WiFi and charge electric equipment.
