Accommodations around Vientiane Wattay Airport
Hotels in the city
What is a good price/quality hotel in Vientiane?
Vientiane is the capital of Laos and around 800,000 inhabitants call it home. This city is much more modern and internationally oriented than other cities in Laos. The main and most well-known sights are Pha That Luang and Patuxay Victory Monument. The city is not too big so it will take you only a couple of days to explore, either on foot or on a bicycle or motorbike. Bloom Boutique Hotel & Cafe in the city centre is a hotel with beautiful rooms, comfortable beds and a delicious breakfast.
Where can I stay the night when travelling between Vientiane and Luang Prabang?
Many travellers choose to make the road trip between the country’s capital Vientiane and Luang Prabang. Given that a bus ride including breaks takes at least 10 hours, travellers often opt to spend one or more nights in between the two cities. One popular choice for this layover is Vang Vieng. The city at the Nam Song River used to be known as the ‘backpacker party capital of Southeast Asia’. Backpackers used to come here to leisurely float on the river on rubber tubes (‘tubing’) while consuming alcohol. Stricter rules introduced in 2012 have drastically changed that. Although tubing and drinking cheap liquor is still possible, the focus now lies more on outdoor activities like kayaking and mountain climbing.
For those who want to enjoy the beautiful nature instead of only bars, the Green View Resort Laos in Tha Heua, 20 kilometres south of Vang Vieng, comes highly recommended. The accommodation offers six luxurious bungalows with a fantastic view over the big lake Nam Ngum. The resort has its own restaurant, bar and swimming pool. From this small oasis you can easily make an excursion to the impressive Vang Vieng Elephant Sanctuary. A boat trip at the Nam Ngum Reservoir, offered by Perfect Journey Laos is also definitely worth considering.
