Public transport

Bus to Vientiane

You can travel between the airport and Vientiane using the bus service Airport Shuttle. This is a quick and reliable means of transportation for any traveller. The bus leaves twice per hour, seven days a week and a bus stop can be found at the exit of the international Arrivals hall. Buses also run on Sundays and public holidays. The terminus station of this bus route is Central Bus Station (CBS) in the centre of the city, also known as Talat Sao. Departing from this station the bus takes an alternative route to get back to the airport. Central stops travelling from the airport towards the city are Wat Mixai (A5), Nam Phu Fountaine (A6) and AV Hotel (A7). All bus services are operated by Vientiane City 2 Bus Service and the journey time is about 15 minutes.

Bus tickets
The price for a one-way trip is 15,000 Lao kip (€ 1.50). The bus route from the airport is known as Airport Shuttle until reaching Sanjiang market. From the market further towards the city, the service is known as Section A and tickets for this part of the journey are only 5,000 Lao kip. You can purchase a ticket once you are on the bus, but be aware that you can only pay with cash.
At the Central Bus Station, you have the option to transfer to a bus taking you to the Lao ITECC Exhibition Center via Patuxay and That Luang. This route is known as Section B and Lao ITECC-CBS Line and the price for a ticket is 4,000 Lao kip.

Throughout the city there are several bus stops that you can use to get back to Vientiane Wattay Airport, one of which is National Culture Hall. Don’t worry if you miss your bus, there are plenty of tuk-tuk drivers who are happy to take you to the airport. They charge the same price as the bus company, namely 15,000 Lao kip per person.
