What is the distance from Almaty Airport to the centre of Almaty?

Via Suyunbai Avenue you can get from Almaty Airport into the city centre (Astana Square). The distance is 15 kilometres / 9.3 miles and the journey time by car 30 minutes. Astana Square is the second largest square in Almaty after Republic Square.

Public transport

Bus to Almaty

There are several buses that run between Almaty Airport and the city. The options are bus numbers 92 and 3 (night time route). Among other stops, these buses stop at bus station Sayakhat, which is near railway station Almaty-2. This is one of the two train stations in Almaty, together with railway station Almaty-1. There is one important difference, Almaty-2 is located in the centre of the city while Almaty-1 is situated a few kilometres outside the city, relatively close to the airport. Travel time to the centre of Almaty is approximately 45 minutes.

Tickets are available from the bus driver, the price of a bus ticket is 150 KZT. The bus stop at Almaty Airport is located in front of Domestic Terminal. Before leaving the airport, you can inquire at the information desk at the airport about travel options and prices. At Almaty Airport, you can buy an “Onay” transport card for public transport in Almaty. If you have a card, you only pay 80 KZT for a single journey instead of 150 KZT.
