General information

Athens Airport opened in 2001, it replaced the old Ellinikon Airport (1938 – 2001). It’s nowadays the busiest airport in Greece, mainly used by Aegean Airlines, Olympic Air, Sky Express, Ryanair and easyJet. The airport is modern and easy to reach by public transport (metro, train and bus). Hotel Sofitel Athens Airport, conveniently located across from the airport terminal, is perfect for travellers with early departures from Athens Airport.

Where is Athens Airport situated?

Athens Airport is located east of the capital in the municipality of Spata-Artemida. The busiest airport in Greece is easily accessible via the A6/E94 motorway (Attiki Odos).

How many terminals does Athens Airport have?

The airport has one main terminal building (MTB) consisting of five floors and one satellite terminal building (STB) consisting of two floors. In the main terminal you will find all check-in desks and the security check on the first floor, Hall A and Hall B are located on the ground floor. Hall A is used for arrivals from non-Schengen countries (Extra Schengen) and Hall B is used for arrivals from Schengen countries (Intra Schengen). The A and B gates are located in the main terminal, the C gates in the satellite terminal. Be aware that you’ll have to walk for 5 to 10 minutes from the main terminal to the satellite terminal.
