General information

Barcelona Airport is one of the busiest airports in Europe, close to the second largest city in Spain. The airport consists of two terminals, T1 and T2 are connected by a free shuttle bus and the metro. Since February 27, 2019, the official name of the airport is Barcelona El Prat Josep Tarradellas Airport, in tribute to the former president of Catalonia.

In 2019, more than 52 million passengers travelled through the airport. The Catalan airport is home to the Spanish low-cost airline Vueling, which carries around 35% of the total number of passengers at Barcelona Airport.

Where is Barcelona Airport situated?

Barcelona Airport is located southwest of Barcelona, in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat. By road, the airport is easily accessible through the B-20 from the north and the C-32 from the south.

How many terminals does Barcelona Airport have?

The airport consists of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 (2A, 2B, 2C). The terminals are 4 kilometers apart, a free shuttle bus runs between the two terminals every 5 minutes. Terminal 2 of Barcelona Airport is a bit closer to the city and is mainly used by low-cost carriers such as Ryanair, Transavia and easyJet. T2A is used for non-Schengen flights, T2B for Schengen flights and T2C by easyJet and easyJet Switzerland.

Terminal 1 was opened in 2009, it’s a large and modern facility. You can find the Departures halls on Floor 1 (gates A, B, C) and Floor 3 (gates D, E / non-Schengen). If you depart from gates D or E, then eat, drink and/or shop before you pass security, there is nothing on the other side. The Arrivals hall of T1 is located on Floor 0. Barcelona Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in Europe, for this reason Terminal 1 Satellite will be opened in the near future.

TIP: Many well-known museums, sights and attractions require online reservations. If you plan to visit the Sagrada Familia and Park Güell during your stay in Barcelona, the convenient Barcelona Digital Pass (including Hop-On Hop-Off bus tickets) is highly recommended!
