General information
Apulia or Puglia in Italian has two international airports, namely Bari Airport and Brindisi Airport. Bari Airport, named after Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla), is the largest airport in the region. Bari Airport is also known as Palese Airport, after the nearby residential area of Palese. The airport has its own railway station from where trains and metros depart, you can reach the railway station via a pedestrian tunnel. Valle d’Itria (including Alberobello) known for its “trulli” is located a short distance from Bari Airport, in the midst of Bari, Brindisi, Taranto.
Where is Bari Airport situated?
Bari Airport is located west of Bari, the capital of Italy’s most eastern region (Apulia/Puglia). The airport is easily accessible via the Autostrada A14 and a short stretch of Strada Provinciale SP54.
How many terminals does Bari Airport have?
The airport consists of one terminal. The Arrivals hall and counters of the car rental companies can be found on the ground floor, the check-in desks (A, B, C, D) and security check are located on the first floor. If you’re flying with Ryanair, you must use the ‘Express Bag Drop’. It is not possible to check in your hold baggage at the counter. After the security check, you will get to the boarding gates, A6 to A11 on the ground floor and A1 to A5 on the upper floor. The airport lounge (Work Lounge) is located on the mezzanine level and is open from 05:00 hours to 11:00 hours. For boarding gates B1 to B4, turn left after the security check.
