The distance from the airport to the historic centre of the city (Plaza Bolívar in La Candelaria) is 15 kilometres / 9.3 miles. By car, you can cover the distance in 30 minutes. Santa Fe is known as the centre of Bogota, the Old Town La Candelaria is located in the middle of Santa Fe. Bus to Bogota
There are no metros and trams in Bogota, but TransMilenio (express) buses which will take you quickly get to your destination. From the airport you can get to the city centre by public transport in three different ways. Buses leave from the bus stops near International Arrivals, all services are provided by TransMilenio / SITP. Most travellers choose bus line M86/K86 towards Hacienda Santa Bárbara via Avenida El Dorado and Carrera 7. At the airport you can board at bus stop K86, as soon as the bus leaves the bus number changes to M86. The express bus connects the airport with Santa Fe and Chapinero, travel time to two central stops (San Diego and Museo Nacional, not on Sundays and public holidays!) is 45 minutes. Here you can change to a bus to La Candelaria. The express buses run from 04:30 hours to 22:45 hours on weekdays, and from 06:00 hours to 22:45 hours on Saturdays. On Sundays and public holidays you can use bus line M86/K86 between 06:00 hours and 21:45 hours.
Bus line 16-14 Feeder Route is a “connecting bus” linking terminals T1 and T2 to Portal Eldorado, a large bus station located near Bogota El Dorado Airport. Buses depart in all directions from this location, including bus line 1 to Universidades near Journalists’ Park Gabriel García Márquez (La Candelaria). You can use bus line 16-14 for free. You have to pay for bus line M86/K86 and bus line 1. It is not possible to buy single tickets for the bus, you must be in possession of a Tullave card. This card for public transportation in Bogota is mandatory for TransMilenio and most SITP bus services. The Tullave card can be purchased at the airport at the Tullave ticket desk close to Domestic Arrivals on the ground floor. You will pay a one-off fee of 5,000 COP (Tarjeta Básica or Tarjeta Plus) and you can top up the card with any amount. The price of a one-way trip from the airport to the city is 2,400 COP (Troncal).
“Bus services M86/K86 and 16-14 run regularly throughout the day, you have a travel option every 5 to 10 minutes. The Tullave card office at Bogota El Dorado Airport is open from 05:00 hours to 22:00 hours Monday to Saturday and from 06:00 hours to 21:00 hours Sundays and public holidays. Outside these times, you can buy a Tullave card at the bus station Portal Eldorado.”
The third and cheapest option are the minibuses, which drive along the airport, a short distance from the official bus stops (check the location). A Tullave card is not necessary for this option, you can pay with cash and the price is 1,800 COP for a single journey. Many of these “Provisional” minivans run to the city centre, the destinations are listed on the front of the minibus. Only if you have little or no luggage with you, this is a good option, because the buses are often packed. Finally, bus line P500 connects Bogota El Dorado Airport with Centro Andino, a large shopping centre in the north of the city (Zona Rosa / Zona T).
