General information

Chengdu Tianfu Airport is a large and modern airport southeast of Chengdu, one of China’s largest cities. Like Beijing and Shanghai, Chengdu has two airports, namely Chengdu Tianfu Airport (44.8 million passengers in 2023) and Chengdu Shuangliu Airport (30.1 million passengers in 2023). Chengdu Tianfu Airport, opened in June 2021, is used for international and domestic flights. The airport has two terminals and three runways, with the majority of flights operated by Air China, China Eastern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines and Chengdu Airlines. In the future, Chengdu Tianfu Airport is expected to expand into a facility with four terminals, six runways, and a capacity to handle 90 million passengers annually. Chengdu Tianfu Airport is situated far from the city centre (55 kilometers / 34.2 miles), the city of Chengdu is accessible by metro, bus and taxi.

The airport is located in the province of Sichuan southeast of Chengdu. By car, you can reach Chengdu Tianfu Airport via the Chengdu Tianfu International Airport Expressway S3.

How many terminals does Chengdu Tianfu Airport have?

The airport has two terminals, together they are shaped like a bird (“shape of the mythical sunbird”). Terminal 1 International in the west is used for international flights, Terminal 2 Domestic in the east is used for domestic flights. It is a 5-minute walk between both terminals, but you can use the free APM automated people mover (90 seconds, between 05:00 hours and 00:45 hours) as well. Between both terminals you will find the metro station of Chengdu Tianfu Airport and two hotels: Joyhub Air Hotel and Joyhub Cheer Hotel.
