General information

Chennai Airport is the largest airport in the state of Tamil Nadu and one of the busiest airports in India. The international airport consists of three terminals and two runways. Chennai is also known as Madras, in 1996 the name of the city was changed from Madras to Chennai. Nowadays, the city is known as “Automobile Hub of India” and “Medical Capital of India”.

Chennai Airport is located in the southwest of Chennai and can be reached by car via National Highway 48.

How many terminals does Chennai Airport have?

The airport has three terminals, from east to west: Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 4. Both T1 and T4 are used for domestic flights. The new terminal T2, also known as New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB-T2), opened its doors in 2023 and is used for international and domestic flights. All terminals at Chennai Airport are interconnected.
