Chongqing is one of the largest cities in China, known as a city with many bridges, but also as “Mountain City” and “City of Rivers”. Chongqing Jiangbei Airport is a busy and modern airport (44.6 million passengers in 2023), mainly used for domestic flights. The airport consists of four runways and two terminals (T2 and T3). The historic and modern cities of Chongqing and Chengdu are separated by just 320 kilometers / 199 miles, a train ride between the two cities takes 2 hours. For international connections to Chongqing, Chengdu Tianfu Airport is a good alternative. Chongqing Jiangbei Airport is easily accessible by train, metro, bus and taxi.

Chongqing Jiangbei Airport is located north of the city in Yubei District. From the city, Terminal 2 can be reached via Airport Road and Terminal 3 via Yuhang Boulevard.
How many terminals does Chongqing Jiangbei Airport have?
The airport has two terminals, namely Terminal 2 and Terminal 3. Both terminals consist of two parts. Terminal 2 has two concourses, T2A opened in 2004 and T2B opened in 2010. Terminal 2 is located west of the runways and is only used for domestic flights. Terminal 3 consists of T3A (opened in 2017) and T3B (opened in 2025, “the world’s largest airport satellite hall”). T3A handles international flights, T3B handles domestic flights. T3A and T3B are connected to each other via an APM automated people mover, a ride takes only 2 to 3 minutes. The check-in desks, security check and also the baggage reclaim area are located in Terminal 3A. The opening of T3A meant the end of Terminal 1 (opened in 1990).
