Albania was a communist state until 1991. Today, the country is a parliamentary republic. A lot has changed since the early ’90s, despite these changes is Albania still one of the poorer countries of Europe. The largest cities of the country are the capital Tirana and the port city Durrës, both cities are situated in the middle of the country. Durrës can be reached by plane via Tirana Airport or by boat through the Italian Bari. The largest user of the only international airport of the country was the Albanian low-cost airline Belle Air, but this airline was declared bankrupt in 2013.
