Bolivia is a country in the middle of South America with about 12 million inhabitants. The country’s government is based in La Paz, but this is not the country’s capital as many people think. Sucre is the capital of Bolivia, Santa Cruz de la Sierra has the most inhabitants. In the 17th century, Potosí at the foot of the Cerro Rico (Rich Mountain) was one of the largest cities in the world because of the large amounts of silver found in the mines. Foreign rulers in particular benefited from this. On August 6, 1825, the country of Bolivia was founded, named after freedom fighter Simón Bolívar. In recent decades the number of tourists in Bolivia has grown, they enjoy the beautiful nature, friendly people and low prices. Well-known places of interest are Salar de Uyuni, La Paz, Camino de las Yungas, Potosí, Sucre and Lake Titicaca.
