Cambodia is a wonderful country in Southeast Asia, known worldwide for the Angkor temples and Khmer Rouge regime. This group led by dictator Pol Pot ruled the country from 1975 to 1979 and was ultimately responsible for 3 million deaths. Nowadays, about 40 years after the liberation everything has changed and more and more tourists come to Cambodia, especially to see the temples of Angkor near Siem Reap. The largest airports in the country in Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville play an important role in this development. The airports are owned by Cambodia Airports, the French company VINCI Airports is responsible for the operation. Phnom Penh Airport and Siem Reap Airport both handled around 5 million passengers in 2018. Cambodia Angkor Air is the largest airline in the country, owned by the Cambodian government (51%) and Vietnam Airlines (49%).
