All of Laos’s major cities, Vientiane, Pakse, Thakhek and Savannakhet are built on the shores of the Mekong River. Other well-known places in Laos are Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng. The country’s popularity as a travel destination is growing, each year between 4 and 5 million international tourists visit the country. Laos has two main international airports, known as Vientiane Wattay Airport and Luang Prabang Airport.
