Seychelles consists of 115 islands, yet it is one of the smallest countries worldwide (455 km2). Seychelles is located about 1,500 kilometres from the African mainland and is the smallest country in Africa in terms of area and by population (100,000). The three most well-known islands are Mahé, Praslin and La Digue. Tourism is an important source of income for the archipelago. The island of Mahé is most popular with holidaymakers, especially the capital Victoria and the beach destinations of Beau Vallon and Bel Ombre. The country has three official languages, namely Seychellois Creole, English and French. Seychelles Airport is located on the island of Mahé, it is home to national flag carrier Air Seychelles.
