Suriname

Suriname is a coountry in the north of South America, until 1975 the country belonged to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. History has ensured Dutch is still the official language of the country. Only 600,000 people live in Suriname, about half of the population live in the capital Paramaribo. The vast majority of Suriname is covered by jungle. Via the Suriname River and the Brokopondo Reservoir you can reach deep into the jungle by boat. Suriname has two airports that are used for commercial flights, Paramaribo J.A. Pengel Airport south of the capital and Zorg en Hoop Airport in Paramaribo. Paramaribo Johan Adolf Pengel Airport is better known to the locals as Zanderij Airport. The country’s national flag carrier is Surinam Airways (SLM – Surinaamse Luchtvaart Maatschappij).
