General information

Cusco Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport is located in the east of Cusco, a city of 430,000 inhabitants. The airport is known as the nearest airport to the popular tourist attraction Machu Picchu. The airport is located in the middle of a densely populated area and has because of that no expansion options. For this reason, it was decided in 2017 to build a new, larger airport in Chinchero, approximately 45 minutes’ drive from Cusco. This airport will be named Chinchero International Airport and open for passengers in 2026 or later. Cusco Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport will then be closed and turned into a city park.

Where is Cusco Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport situated?

The airport is located in the middle of a residential area (Wanchaq District) east of the city centre. Avenida Velasco Astete south of the runway is the access road to the airport.

How many terminals does Cusco Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport have?

Cusco Alejandro Velasco Astete Airport consists of a terminal in an inverted T-shape. The Departures hall and Arrivals hall are separated from each other. In the Arrivals hall you will find a currency exchange office, ATMs and several information desks, including Peru Rail and Inca Rail. Unlike other airports, you are immediately outside after leaving the baggage claim area.

The Departures hall consists of two floors, check-in desks 1 to 18 can be found on the ground floor on the right. International Departures (boarding gates 5 to 11) and Hanaq VIP Lounge are located downstairs, National Departures (boarding gates 1 to 4) is upstairs.
