Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere Airport is the international airport of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city. The airport is named after Julius Nyerere, the country’s first president. Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere Airport is the main hub for Air Tanzania, Precision Air and Coastal Aviation. The flight time between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar Abeid Amani Karume Airport is 30 minutes, the ferry takes 2 hours between Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.

The airport is located in the southwest of the city and can be reached by car via Julius K. Nyerere Road.

How many terminals does Dar es Salaam Julius Nyerere Airport have?

The airport has four terminals, the modern Terminal 3 was opened in August 2019. Terminal 3 is reserved for international flights, Terminal 2 for domestic flights (Air Tanzania, Precision Air, Flightlink). Terminal 1 is only used by smaller aircraft to regional and domestic destinations (Coastal Aviation among others). Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 are within walking distance of each other, it is a 5 minute walk via a covered pedestrian walkway. Terminal 1 is also north of the runway, but it’s not accessible on foot from T2/T3. Next to Terminal 2 is VIP Terminal II for private flights.

In Terminal 3 you will find check-in desks on the left and the Arrivals hall on the right, the passport control and security check on the first floor can be reached via the stairs and elevators in the middle of the terminal. Before going through passport control, you must complete a “Departure Declaration Form”. In the public part of the Arrivals hall there are several ATMs, a supermarket and a coffee bar. Terminal 3 has 16 boarding gates. Terminal 2 is shaped like a ‘V’ and consists of a Departures hall and Arrivals hall.
