General information
Giza Sphinx Airport is a modern airport in Giza, the third largest city in the country after Cairo and Alexandria. The airport opened in 2019, first for domestic flights, a year later in 2020 also for international flights. The airport was built to relieve the pressure on Cairo Airport. Even though the name suggests otherwise, the airport is not very close to the Pyramids (Cheops/Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure) and Great Sphinx of Giza, it takes 45 minutes by car or taxi to get there. The Pyramid of Cheops/Khufu (Great Pyramid) is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

The airport is situated in the west of Giza, northwest of the Pyramids (Cheops/Khufu, Khafre, Menkaure) and Great Sphinx of Giza. The airport is easily accessible via motorway 75 (Cairo-Alexandria Desert Road). Giza Sphinx Airport is a 40-minute drive from The Grand Egyptian Museum.
