Despite the expansion, further growth opportunities are limited due to its location in the middle of the city. For this reason, a new airport, called Long Thanh International Airport, is being built 40 kilometres / 25 miles east of Ho Chi Minh City. It is scheduled to open in 2026. Terminals T1 and T2 at Ho Chi Minh City Tan Son Nhat Airport are interconnected. Terminal 3 is not within walking distance of terminals T1 and T2.
