General information

Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport is Indonesia’s largest airport and one of the busiest airports in Asia. The airport was opened in 1985 and is named after Soekarno, Indonesia’s first president, and Mohammad Hatta, Indonesia’s first vice president. Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport consists of three terminals and three runways and is mainly used by Garuda Indonesia, Citilink, Lion Air, Batik Air and Sriwijaya Air, airlines from Indonesia. Jakarta has two airports, Jakarta Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta is used for domestic flights.

Indonesia’s three busiest airports are Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Bali Ngurah Rai Airport (Denpasar) and Surabaya Juanda Airport.

Where is Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport situated?

The airport is situated in the west of Java, west of Jakarta. The airport is located in the north of Tangerang, one of the big cities that are located around Jakarta. The capital of Indonesia is surrounded by the cities of Bekasi, Depok, Bogor (West Java), Tangerang and Tangerang Selatan (Bantam).

How many terminals does Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport have?

The airport has three terminals, located between the runways. T3 is the newest and most modern terminal of Jakarta Soekarno-Hatta Airport. Terminal 1, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 are connected by a monorail called Skytrain, which travellers can use for free. The Skytrain provides a connection to the airport’s train station (Airport Railway). There are also free shuttle buses running between the terminals, 24 hours a day every 30 minutes.
