Lagos Murtala Muhammed Airport is the largest airport in Nigeria and one of the busiest airports in Africa. The airport serves the cities of Lagos and Ibadan and is named after Murtala Muhammed, a former head of state of Nigeria. The Nigerian airlines Arik Air and Air Peace offer many connections to and from Lagos. Between the two busiest airports in Nigeria, Lagos Murtala Muhammed Airport and Abuja Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, there are 15 to 20 daily flights. Lagos Murtala Muhammed Airport consists of four terminals and two runways. The two domestic terminals, DT1 and DT2 (privately funded, also known as MMA2), are located on the east side of the airport. The two terminals for international flights are located in the middle of the airport between the runways. The airport’s two international terminals, one opened in 1979 and one opened in 2021, are a short walk from each other. Incidentally, the oldest international terminal was built after the example of Amsterdam Airport Schiphol.
